Porcelain Veneers

Young woman with gorgeous smile

Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to refresh the appearance of teeth that contain several flaws, such as stains, chips, cracks, or gaps. Unlike a standard dental crown, this unique type of dental restoration is designed to be extremely thin – thin enough that it can be placed over the visible surfaces of requested teeth without appearing bulky or unnatural, comprehensively transforming them for the better. The structure is extremely high in quality and resistant to gradual staining as well, even more so than your original tooth enamel.

Metal-Free Restorations

When a very visible tooth requires restoration, our doctors understand that patients are often hesitant to accept an unnaturally metallic addition to their smile. Thankfully, we have an image-friendly alternative: metal-free restorations. Our dental crowns, inlays, and onlays are crafted from E-Max dental ceramic, which is virtually indistinguishable in look and color from tooth enamel – this type of material even reflects light in the same way! It’s also highly durable and will function well in everyday life.

Direct Bonding

If you are in need of a “quick fix” to a minor dental concern, such as a small chip in the tooth enamel or a thin gap, direct bonding is likely the best choice. In most cases, we can complete this conservative smile improvement in one appointment. Dr. Nathan or Dr. Christine will apply tooth-colored composite resin (precisely shaded to match your natural enamel) to the requested area and then sculpt it into place with artistic flair, ensuring that it blends in seamlessly with the surrounding structure.

Cosmetic Dentistry FAQs

Smiling woman in the dental chair

If you’ve been thinking about cosmetic dentistry to enhance your smile and boost your self-confidence, it’s natural to have some questions beforehand. At Thrive Dental and Orthodontics, we’ve been helping our patients feel great about their appearance for years now and have answered many common questions in that time. Below you’ll find answers to several cosmetic dentistry FAQs that we hear most often. But if there’s anything else you’re wondering about or if you’d like to know which procedures are right for you, you can contact us at any time. We’re here to help!

Does Insurance Cover Cosmetic Dental Work?

Unfortunately, not usually. However, in some cases, insurance will cover procedures that improve your oral health and the appearance of your smile at the same time. Here are a couple of examples:

  • When a tooth-colored filling is done to repair a cavity on a front tooth, it will not only function better but look much better as well.
  • If your tooth has been severely damaged by a cavity or fracture and a crown is necessary to restore its strength and function, a ceramic crown can be used that also gives you great cosmetic results.

In addition to being in-network with most major PPO dental insurance providers, we also offer third-party financing with CareCredit and even have an in-house payment plan. We’re always willing to work with you to make achieving a smile you feel great about affordable.

What Are the Most Common Cosmetic Procedures?

Here are several cosmetic treatments we often use to give our patients beautiful results. We’ll discuss which ones are best for you during a consultation:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Direct bonding (also called cosmetic bonding)
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Orthodontic treatment, including traditional braces and Invisalign clear braces
  • Tooth-colored fillings, crowns, and bridges (often made of composite, porcelain or ceramic)
  • Full and partial dentures
  • Dental implants

Is Cosmetic Dentistry a Good Idea For Teens?

It depends on the procedure. For example, direct bonding can be used on teens to repair small to moderate cavities, chips, and other flaws on the front teeth. In some cases, whitening is also fine, but we’ll first evaluate each teen based on their age, oral health, etc. before making a recommendation. And orthodontic treatment is always beneficial for teens.

How Long Will It Take To Get My Results?

It’s difficult to answer this question because each person has different needs and, therefore, will have a different treatment plan. Some patients simply need in-office whitening or direct bonding, both of which can be done in just one visit.

Others would like to whiten from home or need a procedure that requires two or more visits such as porcelain veneers. These procedures usually take 1-2 weeks. If dental implants are needed to replace missing teeth, the process can take 3-6 months or longer (although we can provide patients with temporary replacements in the meantime).

Is Cosmetic Dentistry Right For Me?

You’ll be glad to know that many people can benefit from cosmetic dentistry. Having said that, we’ll start by making sure you don’t have any dental problems that need to be addressed first such as cavities or active gum disease. The health of your smile serves as the foundation for how it looks, and just like you would never put a new roof on a house with a faulty foundation, we want to make sure you’re in good health before we begin cosmetic treatment. If you’d like to know more, give us a call today to find out if cosmetic dentistry is right for you!
